Alaska

The San Juan Islands are the prime cruising ground in Washington State. They offer extremely calm waters between them and the anchorages are also calm. The most ideal conditions, with plenty of Sunshine, the warmest temperatures and the least winds are late July- early Sept. Days are long and daylight lingers until 10:00pm at the June Solstice.

The Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada, are the other half of the the US San Juan Islands. There is sheltered cruising along the archipelago and , weather permitting, it can be a comfortable 20 mile crossing from the north end of Valdes Island across the Straight of Georgia to Burrard Inlet and eventually to Vancouver.

Alaska's Glacier Bay charters are subject to permit so a good alternative is Tracy Arm, near Juneau, with glaciers and no huge cruise ships.
